Over year ago, the COVID pandemic resulted in shutdowns all around the world. We were quarantined in our homes doing everything from work to school to avoid being exposed to COVID. COVID also meant we did not get to do some important things that are crucial to our mental and physical health.
Now COVID restrictions are starting to loosen up, it is time to do some important things you may not have been able to do in the last year. Things you need to do after quarantine restrictions are lifted include:
- Visit your doctor.
- Visit your dentist.
- Visit a loved one.
- Spoil yourself.
- Get some fresh air.
As we slowly progress back into the routine of normal life after the pandemic, there are things to do after quarantine restrictions are lifted that will change the quality of our lives instantly. Some of these things are crucial to your overall health and can impact your quality of life long after COVID.
Visit your doctor.
During the height of the pandemic, most doctors and clinics were only available to test and treat COVID patients. Now that restrictions are easing up, it’s the perfect time to make an appointment with your doctor to assess your overall health and wellness.
A wellness assessment will include a physical exam and routine labs such as bloodwork. During this time, you can also discuss any questions or concerns you may have directly with your doctor. In addition, if you need access to a specialist, request it from your doctor.
Seeing a doctor also includes seeing your gynecologist (GYN) to assess your feminine health. Living a year under quarantine without having direct access to your GYN can delay the ability to treat issues when they first appear. Discuss any concerns or questions you may have during that appointment. Its always better to ask the question than to wonder about the state of your health.
After visiting your doctor, you will be able to live without worry because you’ll know the state of your health after the quarantine. Continue any future visits with your doctor with the same frequency as you were prior to the pandemic. Detecting issues early can impact treatment options.
Visit your dentist.
Oral health is just as important as your physical health because your dental health can impact your overall health. Seeing a dentist can also help identify any issues with your oral health such as tooth decay, gum disease, or some other dental disease. Early detection is crucial when it comes to oral health.
Since you have not been able to visit your dentist in at least six months, your dentist will conduct a thorough exam to identify any issues and to rate your overall oral health. If your dentist identifies any trouble areas a treatment plan will be discussed with you. Finding problems early can make an early issue less costly to fix.
If you decide to visit a new dentist, make sure you contact your previous dentist to obtain a copy of your dental records and x-rays. This is important because most dental insurance will only cover x-rays within a certain period such as every two years. Having a copy of your x-rays helps your new dentist obtain more information about your oral health without the need to conduct new x-rays which could result in an additional cost for you.

Visit a loved one!
The people we love and care about are extremely important to us and we were unable to connect with them in-person due to COVID. Through the awesome scientific work done to create vaccines, we can now see the people we care about the most and sit in a room with them without fearing we may cause someone to get extremely sick.
For many people, family is the most important thing in their lives. If family is extremely important to you, now is the time to visit a loved one to spend quality time and create new memories. It may have been a year since you have seen your parents, grandparents, or children but you can hug up on them again so go do it!
When visiting a loved one, do not forget to continue to practice good hygiene by washing your hands and if you do not feel well stay home until you do. Visit your loved one when you know the only thing you are bringing is a smile and a good time.
The most important person in your life is you, so it is important to treat yourself special as often as possible. Spoiling yourself allows you to release stress and to stay motivated to accomplish your goals.
Treating yourself to special time does not have to be expensive and must be done on purpose and consistently. Taking the time to spoil yourself can be something as simple as getting extra rest by sleeping in late or buying yourself that new jacket you have wanted.
Love yourself enough to spoil yourself as much as possible. The pandemic has required all of us to spend most of our lives to confined to our homes exclusively. Finding ways to spoil yourself creates good memories and moments you can recall during a bad day.
Another simple way to spoil yourself today is to make an appointment for a facial, manicure or pedicure. You deserve it so get that appointment scheduled today!
Go out and get some fresh air!
The pandemic required we layered up to protect ourselves from germs on surfaces and in the air. Now we can move about more freely without fear we will contract a deadly virus that could change our life forever. After being locked down for so long, its time to get out and enjoy the scenery!
If you have not done so already, it is a good time to start regular walks in a new environment in order to stimulate your mind and soul. Get on a bike or in the car and go to a relaxing location where you can enjoy the environment without stress or worry. A change in location can spark new inspiration and creativity that you may have needed for some time.
You can also get out and get some fresh air by going on a small mini vacation. We can gather with friends and family again, as long as they too have been vaccinated, to create new special moments. Take a short drive to the beach and spend a few days enjoying the sun and sand. Remember, its been a year since you have been able to enjoy a new environment and other people outside of your home. Its time to live it up!
